2. Mailserver to send your ezine.
When I started my first ezine I had it hosted by Yahoo groups.
Well, I did not start with Yahoo. Until I had 1000 subscribers I
handled all using my Outlook Express and the addressbook
sending my ezine in groups of 100 subscribers BCC. That was
lot's of work, especially handling the unsubscribe requests.
So when I discovered Yahoo groups I though that would be a
perfect solution. They took care of subscriptions and un-subscriptions
and it was free! What could be better.
WRONG! As most of us, I don't always read the fine print.
Yahoo groups does not accept mailing lists with business content.
Anyway, as not reading the fine print, I started to upload my 1000
subscribers and after a couple of days there were at Yahoo groups.
A couple of weeks went. I was happy. Much less work. People joined and
people left the list. I had a very good contact with the subscribers. They
wrote to me with comments about what was written in my ezine.
Suddenly one day I could not login in to my Yahoo account! I searched for my
list only with a return webpage that the list does not exist. I wrote some
10 emails to Yahoo groups support but never, ever got any response! My list
of 3000 subscribers was gone! I had not made any backup of the list. I
trusted Yahoo. Of course I still had the original list but that list was not
actual anymore. During those weeks people had opt out. How could I send
email to the old list without high risk of spam complaint?
Lesson learned.
Never, ever use Yahoo groups for a business ezine! Don't use yahoo as your main email either. Lot's of problems when yahoo filter out important emails without your knowledge!
As I was very busy with both '2Bucks' an Ad and SFI I did not started a new
ezine at that time. You can image that I was very frustrated. At the least.
Building a list of 3000 subscribers is not easy and you will soon learn
that.
Well, 2001 I had a great need of a list to keep my '2Bucks' an Ad clients
updated on my business. So I searched and found http://www.ymlp.com
YMLP is short for Your Mailing List Provider.
And that listserver is my strong recommendation to host your ezine. It's
VERY reliable. During all these years I never saw the domain down for one
minute. It's very easy to send your ezine. Lot's of easy tools and you can
even plan your sending days ahead. AND IT IS FREE UP TO 300 SUBS!
The cost when you reach 300 subs is only $5 per month and that cost is easy
covered by selling solo ads.
Note that there is nothing is this for me. YMLP does not even have a
affiliate program! It's only my own personal recommendation. And we should
be thankful for that. With a affiliate program the costs for sure would be
higher. They live on personal recommendations so let's keep it that way. If
you are satisfied with their service, simply recommend them and keep your
own costs down!
